    The monastic community of St. Mary’s Abbey mourns the passing of Abbot Thomas J. Confroy on the night of August 23, 2010 in the Abbey Health Care Center in Morristown, New Jersey after a long illness. The St. Mary's Abbey/Delbarton community mourns the loss of this very special man and monk.Lynn O'Gorman Latchford, a PhD candidate in the School of Religions, Theology and Ecumenics at Trinity College, Dublin, has written the story of Abbot Thomas's life based on 50 hours of taped imterviews and many converations with him.   • Enjoy Some Organic Abbey Produce

    Head gardener Br. Paul Diveny invites the Delbarton community to enjoy the Abbey's fresh, organic produce.

    After picking one quarter of this week's crop of organically grown green beans, and realizing he already had far too many, today head gardener (and Delbarton headmaster) Br. Paul Diveny set up an Abbey produce stand. The Delbarton community is invited to shop from a selection of just-picked, organically grown beans, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini. The stand, adjacent to the one acre fenced garden at the South Gate Fields, will be open throughout the season and offer a rotating cop of vegetables. The garden began last winter when Br. Paul started seedlings at the Abbey and finished them off in the Science Pavilion greenhouse. Read all about the vegetables' organic origins here. Anyone interested in helping to pick crops is invited to contact the head gardener. This week Connor Buckley '11 volunteered to lend a hand, and all assistance is greatly appreciated.   • Alums Watch Loree '03 Pitch for Newark Bears

    On August 17, 2010 a group of loyal Green Wave fans watched Mike Loree '03 take the mound for the Newark Bears in a minor league contest against the Lancaster Barnstormers. After a hard fought game the Bears beat the Barnstormers 10-8.

    At their recent Assembly in Long Beach, CA, August 4-7, 2010, the Conference of Major Superiors of Men (CMSM), whose leaders represent more than 19,000 Catholic religious brothers and priests in the United States, chose the Right Rev. Giles P. Hayes, OSB, Abbot of St. Mary’s Abbey, as President-Elect of the Conference.

    An article in the August 8th Sunday New York Times, and a video posted on the newspaper's website, reveals to the public the mystery of Delbarton's so-called Lost City which Abbey archivist Fr. Benet Caffrey shared in the spring 2010 issue of Delbarton Today.

  • The Carter Cup

    The Carter Cup attracts the area's top junior golfers who test their mettle on two championship courses at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, NJ.

    The eighth annual Carter Cup, the Metropolitan Golf Association's Junior Stroke Play Championship, was held at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, NJ on August 4th. The invitational event is named in honor of the late Michael P. Carter '00, an accomplished junior player and standout member of the Green Wave golf team who died in a car accident in 2002.
